Pet Urine Carpet Cleaner: 5 Quick Tips for Getting Rid of Pesky Odors in Your House

Pet urine on carpet is a common problem that many people face. In most cases, pet owners find themselves faced with a lingering odor from their pets’ accidents. This smell may come from both dried or wet urine stains which can be found in all types of carpets, even those made of synthetic fibers. It’s important to know how to get rid of pet odors because they can be harmful not only for your sense of smell, but for your health as well.

The enzymes in pet urine can damage the fibers in a carpet or other fabrics that they come into contact with if allowed to sit too long without being removed . The first step should always be using a paper towel to absorb as much of the liquid as possible from the affected area. After this, your best defense against pet odors is to properly clean and treat the area with a commercial product designed for this purpose.

Always follow the instructions provided on the label of any cleaning or odor-removal agent you buy. When removing pet urine from carpets, here are a few tips that will help:

  1. Dilute 1/4 cup of vinegar in 1/2 gallon of warm water to use for pet stains or accidents. The acetic acid contained in the vinegar will help break down the enzymes, while its power to decrease pH will destroy any present bacteria.
  2. Allow your solution to completely dry before using a carpet cleaner on it. This may take up to 24 hours. The enzymes require moisture to activate, so it’s important the area is completely dry when you clean it.
  3. Begin by using a towel to blot up as much of the urine as possible, after it has been soaked in with your vinegar mixture or other cleaning solution. This step will help reduce any odor left behind.
  4. Then saturate the area with a pet odor removal product, making sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions as closely as possible. These products are designed specifically for this type of situation and will make it easier for you to find all affected areas.
  5. Lastly, allow the cleaner to dry fully before letting your pet back onto the area. Like vinegar, this may take up to 24 hours depending on the cleaner you use.

As always, it’s important not to let your pet return until everything is fully dry!
