Tom Petty Park in Gainesville renamed in honor of rocker
A Gainesville park will be renamed in honor of rocker Tom Petty. Located near the rocker’s boyhood home, the park will be renamed in honor of Petty on October 20, the date of his birth. The park will feature a dedication ceremony and a birthday party honoring Petty. Both events will feature Petty tribute bands and former members of his band Mudcrutch. The dedication ceremony took place at the park that Petty played in as a boy. Petty’s friends and family joined together to honor him with a new name. The park is now officially named Tom Petty Park in Gainesville. Adria Petty was present for the event and was among those who had come out to celebrate the rocker. A plaque will mark the spot for a commemorative plaque to be unveiled in the future.
Dog park
Tom Petty park is a green zone in the heart of Gainesville that is great for both you and your pooch. Accessibility improvements
City officials have announced that Tom Petty Park will be undergoing an accessibility project. Work is scheduled to begin in June and will take approximately one week. City Public Works Department workers will install handrails and make other adjustments to the park. The project will cost approximately $2600.
